Getting used to Apture… somebody, please just say it… Apture doesn’t work on Chrome, does it? That’s why there’s no response to the “aaargh what’s happening” question posted two weeks ago, isn’t it? What’s supposed to happen when you click on the linked words is that a little window pops up ON THIS PAGE… hhhmmm one works and the rest will take you away… please don’t go, just right click for another window and stay?
WordPress is another challenge…. working out how to present the content of this site is a never ending challenge… the logic, is a little baffling… haven’t quite mastered the layout EXACTLY how I want, it’ll do for now. The intention is for this space to be more of a gallery…. for reflection, to quite simply provoke thought… rather than bombard you with information.
Perfect segway for SumoPaint, now that’s heaps of fun to learn how to create bold and bright images for the WP backgrounds, if that’s your thing. The wordpress/flickr rotating banner allows for a little change now and then (ea 15 mins)… if only it were possible to create a specific rotating theme and header for each page – sounds easy right. Why then is a degree in coding required to make it happen?
OK, so what’s new pussycats? If you go to the storytelling tab on the menu you’ll see that Thursday nights at the DogsBar in StKilda has a unique event for storytellers to tell their stories. It’s a different way to spend a night out for people who are looking to do something a little different, and like stories. Chris Flynn and Josephine who organise the event are passionate about literature, and like moths to a flame, authors are sitting in that big leather chair each Thursday to read their stories out loud each week. The night is proving popular and is definitely worth checking out.
Next week Thursday Jul 15th Dan Ducrou is the guest speaker and Eric Dando is the feature. It’s a free event doors open at 8pm.
Oh, and I’m the serial storyteller dropping in with chapters at the open mic section – see storytelling on the menu and drop down to read each weekly chapter, they get published on Scribd after Thursday’s live storytelling read.
What else? Oh yeah, Software Freedom Day is looking goooooood. The team is meeting each week at the State Library to create the day…. and the confirmations are coming in. Pia Waugh confirmed she’ll be there to talk about Gov2.0, and Senator Kate Lundy is tentatively booked. Considering we might have a federal election at the same time, who knows, anything could happen.
People/businesses TBC are Salsa Internet, Jessica Coates from CCI, WWWShop, Drupal, Squiz… it’s going to be a fun day! (September 18 put SFD in your diary 11am-4pm- see the OpenSource tab for more info).
What’s been great about being involved with the Linux community is learning how BIG the world of Open Source is – amazing how many different areas OS impacts. Glyn Moody is one of the many twitterers feeding information for communities and business thriving on Open Source and my mind boggles. As an Androider, I notice a smile onmy face when information for how fast the user base is growing oh, and Android Australia developers will be also be at Software Freedom Day. BYO questions.
