This dress and shirt are by Victor Alexandre of Bay Street Brighton … I bought some pirate pants from his boutique earlier this year and love the way he works with fabric. When I approached him re the photo shoot I’d organised…without really thinking about what the models would be wearing, I plucked up the courage to approach Victor to see if he had some samples I could paint… he didn’t, instead he grabbed four items off the rack- two dresses and two shirts to go to town on! This is one of the dresses and shirts together, the detail is in the artwork, tiny flowers along the neckline of the shirt and the edges of the sleeves – and big swirls to give the body of the dress a touch of woman, both beautiful blends of gold and white. Why I’m asking if fashion is going to melt too, a video from TED gives a unique account for the industry – it’s actually open source and free from copywrite. And that’s what gets me so excited about the possibility of people painting their own clothes… it’s a completely fresh canvas that’s really un-own-able!
